GKV+Architects was looking to showcase their diverse portfolio of work spanning from corporate to residential to preservation projects. Their objective was to have a custom designed Flash-based website they could update on their own. Our solution was to create a content management system (CMS) which allows them to update their Home page animation, Portfolio categories and images, and Client List. The system we developed allows for up to 15 customizable Portfolio categories. Each category can be assigned a custom color theme along with a custom set of photos and photo titles. Best of all, their portfolio images do not need to be re-sized to fit a template. In fact, the transitions between images are more dramatic when there is more variety between images sizes.
To enhance the Home page we created a customizable slide show of images which play in random order. GKV also has the ability to assign custom animated color effects over each image. The resulting effect transforms static images into a smooth video-like presentation which will always feature their latest work.
Based on the functionality requirements for this website we chose to use Adobe Flash for its smooth and powerful animation effects and cross-browser presentation consistency. The transition effects designed for the portfolio photos were applied to all menu category changes to give the entire site a fluid and cohesive appearance.
